Tap Hole Maple Earrings - Made in Vermont - One of a Kind
Handmade in Vermont by artist Reed Prescott.
Wood used to make this piece came from the maple altered in color as part of our spring traditgion of making Maple Syrup. When taping our maple trees, we drill a small hole to insert a tap allowing the sap to flow. This causers minor damage to the interior of the tree which nature heals. The hole left behind takes in water which without sunlight creates a bacteria that stains the wood which moves up and down the grain. Years later when hervested you can see where the tree has healed itself while an attractive stripping accents the boards.
